Awareness prog for PwDs held, hearing aids distributed for free

Apart from organizing a one day disability awareness programme on "Ensuring Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities in the community" at Kanemram Village, Chandel district today, hearing aids were also distributed at free of cost to 17 hearing impaired individuals.
The function organized by Composite Regional Centre (CRC) for Persons with Disabilities, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India was graced by Manipur State Disaster Management Authority, Government of Manipur vice chairperson Adim Pamei as chief guest.
Speaking at the function, Adim Pamei conveyed that it is the objective of the BJP led Central Government and State Governments to provide an opportunity to make hearing impaired persons in the country listen and understand about everything including the developmental schemes and programmes taken up the respective Governments in the country.
He assured that he along with the BJP led Government in the State will make sure that the persons with disabilities, especially who are hearing impaired, are able to hear and include in the affairs of their community and access to the developmental schemes.
Informing that the distribution of hearing aids to deserving beneficiaries was taken up initially in the backward districts among other districts, Pamei asked the village authority of Kanemram Village to identify all those who have hearing problem and make a list/report so that they can be tested and they can obtain certificates from the authorities concerned to get hearing aids at free of cost.
Observing that it is high time for all to awaken and work together to bring peace and development in the State, he asserted that it is rather difficult to convince those people who pretend to be deaf and unaware as otherwise, despite seeing and understanding everything.
However, the BJP and its coalition Government will try its best to wake the society and bring development in the State, he added.
Meanwhile, Lanu Areng Aimol, Rehabilitation Officer, CRC, Guwahati informed that with the introduction of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, there has been a paradigm shift in thinking about disability, from a concern of mercy to a human rights issue.
He said that disabilities too have the every right to enjoy all the welfare schemes that a normal person accesses.
He also lauded the BJP led coalition Government in the State for introducing doorstep delivery welfare programmes.
Many other BJP workers and villagers of Kanemram Village, including its chief also attended at the function.
