ZYF to convene meeting

Imphal, March 21 2016: The Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF) is convening a meeting for consultation with all the stakeholders, khunbus, chiefs, khullakpas, chairmen of all the Zeliangrong villages within the jurisdiction of the proposed Kangchup-Tamenglong road construction on March 28 at Khumji village community hall to discuss the legitimate rights of the land owners to get fair compensation and other entitled benefits.

The Zeliangrong Union (ZU) has however issued a statement declaring that no one should cause hindrance or delay of any sorts to the construction of road and termed the meeting called by the ZYF as irrelevant, ZYF said in a statement.

ZU has been misinformed, misled and misguided by few vested interests whose intention is to deprive the people who would be affected by the project from all the legal benefits, the statement alleged.

In order to deal with matters relating to acquisition of land for development purposes and payment of compensation and other benefits to land owners, the Parliament of India has enacted an act known as the Rights to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 .

Therefore, it is the duty of the people's organization particularly the ZYF to enlighten the people about their legitimate rights, ZYF said.

The ZYF's impeccable integrity, concern for people's cause and commitment for development might be questionable but any attempt to deceive and deprive the rights of the land owners will not be allowed.

The land owners' demands for payment of fair compensation and other benefits are legally valid.

However, they were misinterpreted as objection and opposition to the development activities by Zeliangrong Union (ZU) simply to suit and serve the vested interests.

ZYF appeal to all the responsible persons including Zeliangrong Union (ZU) to be aware of the existing laws so that development is tangible with support and participation of the people, the statement urged.
