MLA Khaute inspects Khuga Dam canal

CCpur, July 20 2022: Deeply concerned over problems faced by farmers due to the failure of the left canal of Khuga Multipurpose Dam in supplying irrigation water to large area of paddy fields, Churachandpur MLA LM Khaute assessed condition of the canal on Wednesday.

MLA Khaute was greeted by local leaders of Lourup namely Ngulkhanthang and Kamkhanthang and other members while farmers presented him a traditional shawl.

After inspecting the canal starting from Mata village till Khuga Multipurpose Dam, Khaute opined that the canal seems to be in good condition but the point where water is being released from the dam on the left canal is creating problem in free flow of water due to piling up of debris and siltation.

The department concerned may be facing problem in clearing the debris and accordingly told farmers to take initiative for clearing the debris.

Later, special class contractor Minboi was instructed to do the needful and soon after irrigation water started to flow.

He informed that the farmers' association approached him for repairing the canals and he referred the matter to DC Churachandpur.

As problem of the farmers need to be addressed immediately considering the short period left for sowing seeds, clearing of the canals needs to be accelerated and accordingly did without waiting for the government, he said, adding that more than 70 'Paris' of paddy fields are now getting enough water for sowing seeds.
