Imphal, September 19 2015 :
Manipur Driver's Welfare Association has today urged State Government to build quality bridges along National Highways to avoid recurring bridge collapse owing to low quality maintenance.
Criticising the 24 tons limit set for trucks plying along NH 37, the association said the move deprives the people of abundance of food and other necessary commodities.
A statement issued by the association general secretary has also claimed that the drivers have to pay taxes at every stop even after Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam had ordered reduction in check posts/toll tax gates along National Highways.
The general secretary also alleged that traffic police at Imphal area are more into collecting side tax from drivers than controlling the traffic.
He has further urged authorities concerned to probe into the matter at the earliest.
