A combined team of 43 Assam Rifles and Moreh Police have seized pharmaceutical drugs worth more than Rs two crore last night at 10.30 pm from Indo-Myanmar border, reports our correspondent.
According to a police source, after receiving a tip-off of drugs being smuggled into Myanmar from Manipur side, Police and AR were alerted.
A Maruti Eeco van with two occupants was stopped for checking and during the checking the said items were found.
The two occupants identified as Thangminlal Touthang (28) and Lunminthang Touthang (27) both residents of Haolenphai village in Tengnoupal district have been arrested.
Meanwhile, Moreh Consumer Club while expressing great concern regarding the matter has urged the authorities concerned to look into the matter to find other persons involved.
43 Assam Rifles, in yet another operation yesterday morning, confiscated 871 grams of brown sugar and 1000 pieces of WY tablets from a man identified as Sonkhopao Vaiphei (29) SM Lhangjol village in Moreh.
He has been handed over to Moreh Police Station along with the confiscated items.
