'World Diabetes and Stroke Day' observed at Kangpokpi

Kangpokpi, November 18 2019: World Diabetes Day and World Stroke Day 2019 was observed at District Hospital Conference Hall, Kangpokpi DHQs today.

The event which was held under different theme such as "Family & Diabetes, Protect your Family" and "Don't be the one" was organized by District Health Society, Kangpokpi under the aegis of National Health Mission, Kangpokpi.

KSO Sadar Hills president, Thangminlen Kipgen graced the occasion as chief guest while Kangpokpi Women Welfare Organization president, Hekim Hangshing and DMD/CMO Kangpokpi, Dr Kimneng Misao attended as guest of honour and functional president respectively.

Dr Paotinlal Haokip, District Nodal Officer, NCD Cell, DHS Kangpokpi welcomed the resource persons, guests and all the participants before presentation was performed to the dignitaries and guests.

Speaking at the occasion, Thangminlen Kipgen, president SH-KSO lauded Dr Paotinlal Haokip, DNO, NCD Cell, DHS Kangpokpi, who is also the Medical Superintendent i/c of District Hospital Kangpokpi for working tirelessly for overall development of the District Hospital despite various limitations.

He also assured that KSO-SH have been and will continue to work for the welfare and development of health department of the district.

Hekim Hangshing, president KWWO expressed her appreciation to the DHS Kangpokpi and DNO NCD Cell, Kangpokpi for organising such a valuable health camp with specialist doctor at District Hospital Kangpokpi for the first time.

One of the doctors, Dr Rothangpui said that NCDs like Diabetes and Stroke can be controlled with timely check up, exercise, and diet control while Dr Gaining Kamei explained on how diabetes can affect the eyes adding that blood sugar control is necessary to prevent damage to the retina.

Around 200 patients attended the free check up and availed facilities provided during the camp organized in connection with the observation of World Diabetes and Stroke Day.

LFT, KFT, Lipid Profiles and RBS were also done to 67 patients and ECG was done to more than 30 patients while vision test with retina check up was performed to 38 patients.

Dr Rothangpui (MD), Associate Professor, Department of Medicine, JNIMS and Dr Gaining Lulu Kamei, MS (Ophthalmology) apart from doctors of DHS Kangpokpi examined the patients.
