World Bamboo Day observed

The Giving Tree has observed the 5th World Bamboo Day under the theme "Environment and housing" at BAHAI Campus, Sangaiprou today.
The occasion was marked by bamboo plantation at the campus, bamboo melody by Rythms of Manipur, and launching of a T-shirt.
Speaking as chief guest at the occasion, N Amusana, Director Eco park, Nongmaijingching said, "When other countries have even made bamboo aeroplane, we are conducting awareness on bamboo just recently" .
Presided over by Debabrata Khumanthem, Managing Director Cane and Bamboo Allied Industry, the observance was attended by Th Brojendro, Sr Lecturer Oriental College as guest of honour.
Recalling the first ever World Bamboo Day held at Bangkok as per the Bangkok Declaration, Brojendro opined positively on the experts' saying that "Our land will prosper when bamboos are grown freely" .
Not only that bamboo products can be used for earning but it benefits the environment.
Wide plantation of bamboo not only secures livelihood but purifies the environment.
Moreover, bamboo shoots are also preferably eaten by many, Brojendro added.
