Imphal, May 18 2016: The incessant rain that lashed the State on May 17 and 18 has caused flood in Khumbong in Imphal West district.

In a statement, Imphal West Students' Club (IWSC) said that the flood has caused extensive damages to houses, shops, fish farms and cattle sheds at Khumbong Mayai Leikai and Khumbong Makha Mamang Leikai.

The club further said that the flood was mainly due to faulty construction of Chabanthabi dam constructed over Maklang river.

On the other hand, the RCC bridge constructed over the same river at Khumbong bazar also obstructs free flow of water creating flood at the area.

The club urged the local MLA, IFCD and BRTF to construct high retaining walls of Maklang river at Khumbong.
