Protection of Territorial Integrity: Now, Pol parties to press for Article 3 amendment

After getting an assurance from the Prime Minister as well as the Union Home Minister on protection of territorial integrity of Manipur, the delegation of all Political Parties led by Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, which is presently at the National capital, has decided to press their respective National leaders for support in the move for amending the Article 3 of Indian Constitution.
The Article 3 of Indian Constitution confers the Parliament the power to form a new State by separation of territory from any State or by uniting two or more States or parts of States or by uniting any territory to a part of any State.
According to reports reaching Hueiyen Lanpao from Delhi, the delegation of all Political Party submitted a memorandum to Prime Minster Dr Manmohan Singh and Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde yesterday and urged for amending Article 3 of the Indian Constitution to ensure territorial integrity of the North Eastern States including Manipur.
As a follow up to the meeting with the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister, the delegation has decided to press their respective National leaders to support for bringing about an amendment to Article 3, reports said.
Reports further informed that during the meeting yesterday, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh and Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde conveyed that it would be a hard job to amend Article 3 of the Indian Constitution.
To that, the delegation made it clear that they would be pressing their respective National leaders for doing the needful in this regard.
Accordingly, the delegation has started lobbying their respective leaders at the National level to support their cause.
The delegation has also decided to submit a copy of the memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister to their respective National leaders as well, the reports added.
Among the all political parties delegation, members of CPI (M), CPI, JD(S), JD (U), Seva Dal, All India Forward Block, All India Trinamool Congress and Lok Jan Shakti Party met their respective National leaders today.
Members of BJP, NCP and BSP would follow suit tomorrow, the reports disclosed.
The delegation of All Political Parties would be returning to Imphal on January 20.However, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam would be staying back in Delhi to attend a sitting of the Congress.
