Governor urged to rescue Irabanta

Highlighting events leading to the disappearance of contract supplier Irungbam Irabanta Meitei of Nongdam Maning Leikai, the JAC formed on the issue has urged Governor Gurbachan Jagat to intervene and rescue the 38-year old from the clutches of NSCN(IM).
The JAC along with representatives of student and civil society organisations staged a sit-in-demonstration at Keishampat Lairembi community hall from morning till afternoon today while a delegation hand ed over a memorandum to the Governor.
The memorandum strongly condemned alleged callousness and delaying tactics of the Government of Manipur in delivering justice; demanded that the Government ensure immediate and safe rescue of Irabanta; book and punish key suspects/ conspirers; check nefarious activities of NSCN (IM), whom the JAC had been accusing of abducting Irabanta; and cau tioning that intense agitation would be launched against the Government in case Irabanta could be traced at the earliest.
The memorandum also mentioned that Irabanta left his rented house in Porompat for Ukhrul on May 28 morning along with one Winner (not Wilier as reported earlier) to have talks with the NSCN (IM) on a contract issue.
