Imphal, July 17 2024:
Manikanta Mutum, a young environmental activist with the aim to promote tree plantation in Manipur has started a campaign submitting memorandum to 40 MLAs including the Chief Minister.
The memorandum includes agendas to promote tree plantation in Government and private schools by providing certificates, and make the certificate a mandatory document to apply for Government jobs.
Manikanta Mutum has already submitted the memoranda to 10 MLAs.
"We, environmental activists are also soldiers fighting for the future of the people, and we need moral support from the public," Manikanta said, addressing media persons at Manipur Press Club, Imphal.
He spoke of hurdles and lack of moral support from the people in his campaign, and alleged he was mistreated by security officers when he visited some MLAs.
"I've already submitted memoranda to 10 MLAs.
I will continue the campaign and visit the remaining 30 MLAs," Manikanta said.
He said he doesn't want to be "mistreated" when he visits the remaining MLAs.
KK Wahengbam, an advisor of Manikanta Mutum, spoke to the media about the challenges the solo campaign is facing, and urged people for moral support and financial assistance.
