Zeliangrong bodies suspend stir

Imphal, July 17 2014: The Zeliangrong Baudi (Manipur), Zeliangrong Youth Front (ZYF-AMN), and Village Authority Chairman Council (VACC) have suspended their stir in pursuit of their demand for improvement of power situation in Tamenglong.

On July 2, ZB, ZYF and VACC submitted a joint petition to the Chief Secretary (CS) of Manipur, through the Deputy Commissioner, Tamenglong to convene a meeting of all social organizations and representatives to deliberate the pathetic power supply pattern in Tamenglong, said a press release.

Consequently the CS convened a meeting on July 14, which was attended by the Managing Director (MD) of Manipur State Power Distribution Cooperation Ltd (MSPDCL), three MLAs representatives of Tamenglong district and the Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong.

The Deputy Commissioner, Tamenglong then called the ZB, ZYF and VACC to his chamber on July 17 .

The DC assured that the Government would arrange a 11 KV line from Kangpokpi for power supply to Tamenglong within 5 days.

A 33 KV line from Jiribam would also be arranged within 15 days for power supply to Tamenglong and Nungba areas.

The Deputy General Manager (DGM)/EE Doren Singh would remain at Tamenglong station to oversee the power situation.
