Imphal, October 16 2015 :
Joint Action Committee for Mapithel Dam Downstream Affected People has urged the State Government to immediately take up steps to enable return of people of Maphou Kuki and Tumukhong villages to normal life and resume livelihood activities.
In a statement, the JAC said that people of Maphou Kuki and Tumukhong villages resumed their sand quarry activities after the authority concerned blocked water at Mapithel dam.
However, stones and sand worth around Rs 2 lakh had been swept away by the water suddenly released from the dam at around 9 am on October 10, the statement said.
It added that the Government is yet to translate its assurances made during a meeting with the Chief Secretary on August 26 into action till today.
The JAC further said that the dam has become a trouble to the people of these two villages as the engineers of IFCD are working at their whim and fancy.
The JAC urged the Government to do the needful so that people may resume their normal livelihood activities and live in peace.
