Senapati, July 16 2024: Former UNC and ANSAM leader H Kuba Peter from Maram Bazar has been elected as the new President of Naga People's Organization (NPO), an apex body of Naga.

In a triangular contest of three candidates representing three respective tribes Hohos, the Poumai, Mao & Maram, H Kuba Peter, a nominee of Maram Union contested in the election conducted by a commission selected from different tribes.

The remaining vacant posts will be filled in a few days time by the Election Commission which is likely to happen before July 20 .

The new President taking over the helm of NPO comes amidst the ongoing 15 months conflict between two communities and strategic political pressures and economic advantages it controls.

After the election, popularly known as Naba Peter, the new NPO President assured to look into issues which are ailing Senapati District while promoting peaceful co-existence between different communities residing in the district.

While seeking cooperation from all, H Kuba Peter thanked all the Tribe Hohos and called for collective responsibility in resolving different issues placed before the office of NPO .
