Imphal, April 16 2020:
Expressing one's love has varying degrees and the kind of Taniuluang villagers did on Wednesday speaks something not to be forgotten soon.
Villagers of Taniuluang took pains for days while trying to soothe the desperate situation of valley dwellers in trying times such as these when essential commodities, especially food items, have become scarce.
Following the Konsakhul (Konsaram) example of fetching food items for valley dwellers, Taniuluang, another Liangmai village situated some 130 km north-west of Kanglatongbi and 90 km from Kangpokpi, brought green vegetables in the valley and distributed the items to 14 localities.
Koirengei, Pheidinga, KR Land, Maharabi, Tendongyang, Sekmai (New Market), Koujeileima, AR Colony, Shantipur, Kanglatongbi Mandir, Vijaynagar, Tespari, Katikuwa and Lanthungching.
Taniuluang is also known as Langka.
"Initiated by the Taniuluang (Langka) Youth Club, the villagers collected a truck (Shaktiman) load of vegetables from the village vicinity and forest and distributed the same to the people," stated a villager of Taniuluang.
While distributing the vegetables, Kenjinbui Abonmai, chairman of Taniulong village observed that "this is not the time for the world to watch and wait or being egoistic but it is the time to stand together and fight this dreaded virus" .
Abonmai added that "it is not the time for us to wait for the Government to do everything; it is everyone's responsibility to help one another" .
Requesting the people to abide by the rules and regulations set by the Government in connection with the COVID-19 issue, Lungchapbuibou Prinmai, president of Taniuluang Youth Club appealed the people to do away with hill-valley divides during the crisis such as the prevailing one saying that there is no hill, no valley but we are all human beings facing a common crisis" .
He further stated that the villagers were "trying their best to extend their helping hands to the people in need" .
Assuring that his village will continue to extend all possible helps "despite the difficulties due to distance and lack of proper transport and communication," he added, "the vegetables which we distributed may be minuscule but we feel rewarded that our show of solidarity was appreciated by the people who came to receive it" .
