Imphal, October 15 2013:
Normal life in Manipur came to a standstill on Tuesday on account of the three separate bandhs/general strike called over different issues.
While the Co-ordination Committee (CorCom) of six major UG groups namely United National Liberation Front (UNLF), Revolutionary People's Front (RPF), Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK), Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) and PREPAK-Progressive called an 18-hour general strike in the State with effect from last midnight in protest against the merger of Manipur with India on this day in 1949, Maoist Communist Party of Manipur imposed a parallel bandh for 12-hours over the same issue.

On the other hand, Kuki Inpi Saikul Gamkai (KISG) and Saikul area Naga People's Organisation (SANPO) have jointly given a 48-hour bandh call in Senapati district, also with effect from last midnight.
KISG and SANPO have given the bandh call in protest against the alleged negligence of the state government towards their demands made through a memorandum submitted on September 25 for the immediate cancellation of Home department's notification of June 14, 2011 with regard to inclusion of villages of Saikul sub-division under the police district boundary of Imphal East.
Due to the triple bandh/general strike, all the shops, market places, banks, business establishments and educational institutions remained closed and transport services suspended for the day.
Attendance in Government offices was reported to be thin due to cancellation of public transport services.
