Kangmong Sangeet Kala Mandal organises Tarpan

Imphal, September 15 2022: A programme in connection with Langban Tarpan Katpa ritual was held at Kangmong Maisnam Leikai today organised by Kangmong Sangeet Kala Mandal.

Padmashree awardee Wareppa Naba, Chairman of Cultural Workers and Activists Forum (CWAF) Manipur, Budha Chingtham and Manipur Theatre Academy Director, Sarungbam Beeren graced the event as the presidium members.

Addressing the gathering, Wareppa Naba expressed discontent on the current mindset of the youths who have no inclination to conduct Tarpan ritual of paying homage and offerings to the departed forefathers.

He went on to state that failing to stay rooted with the indigenous culture and tradition is like losing one's identity.

Further he emphasised on the importance of acquiring knowledge from the elders about the history and culture to ensure that the same legacy is carried forward in future generations thereby striving for a progressive society.

As a part of the programme, artists of the Mandal paid tribute and made offerings to the deceased forefathers and artists.

Also a Nama Sankirtana performance and 'Lairik Haiba Thiba' was presented during the programme.
