Imphal, March 15 2018:
On the occasion of the first anniversary of the BJP-led coalition Government, Chief Minister N Biren today launched two new schemes; Startup Manipur and Lairik Tamhanlasi.
Launching the two new schemes at the Chief Minister's Cabinet Hall this afternoon, Biren stated that Rs 30 crore has been earmarked in the State budget for the Startup Manipur.
He said that Startup Manipur would enable youth/unemployed persons to take up new ventures with new and creative ideas.
Under this scheme, up to Rs 3 crore is available to individual Start-Ups.
Applications can be submitted online through the website www.startupmanipur.in.
A survey conducted by the officials of the Education Department revealed that there are around 40,000 drop-out students in the State.
Major factors for such high dropout rate, he said, are due to the financial constraints faced by the families of the students.
The Government had thoroughly discussed these problems being faced by poor students of the State.
So the Lairik Tamhanlasi scheme would encourage those students who are enrolled in Government schools to get education as they would be provided financial assistance for admission/examination/tuition fees, uniforms and text books.
In this regard, a sum of Rs 16 crore has been earmarked in the annual budget, he added.
A particular cell would be opened to facilitate the scheme in various offices of the Education Department, Biren added.
Responding to a query raised by media persons, Education Minister Th Radheshyam who was also present at the gathering appealed to all the people to report to the Government if they find any young child working in hotels and other places.
He also underscored the need to rehabilitate such children.
Education Minister V Hangkhanlian, Chief Secretary RR Rashmi and Principal Secretary (Education and Planning) Vineet Joshi were also present at the gathering.
