AR conducts pickle making workshop

44 Assam Rifles of 10 Sector under HQ IGAR(S) in collaboration with Association of Food Scientists and Technologist (I), Manipur Chapter and SDO Kamjong-Chassad organised a workshop on pickle making at Chassad and Kamjong villages of Kamjong Sub Division, Ukhrul District from 09 to 10 Nov 2012.This effort was aimed at training residents of remote villages of this area to enable them to raise small scale industry and earn a decent livelihood.
Two days long workshop was conducted by Mr Tonjao Singh, President, Association of Food Scientists and Technologist (I), Manipur Chapter along with his team.
This hilly extreme border area produces lemon, amla, orange in large quantity and the same is sent to other places including Myanmar due to its proximity.
Due to prolonged militancy in the area, it remained devoid of any employment avenues like small scale industry.
This workshop was an effort to encourage self employment, bolster a sense of entrepreneurship a step towards women empowerment.
The initiative was given an overwhelming response by locals with a total of 200 ladies from Chassad, Kamjong and adjoining villages participated in the workshop.
During the workshop, the representatives of Association of Food Scientists and Technologist (I), Manipur Chapter exhibited techniques and culinary skills to prepare pickle of various vegetables and fruits.
The participants volunteered to attend the 15 days workshops being run at Imphal to gain expertise in the skill and start their own small business.
The workshop was also attended by all ranks of 44 Assam Rifles.
