Birth centenary of RKCS celebrated

The birth centenary celebration of Rajkumar Chandrajitsana Singh, popularly known as RKCS was held today at the auditorium of JN Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal.
The event organised by the RKCS Birth Centenary Celebration Committee (RBCCC) was graced by Prof Paonam Gunindro, Vice Chancellor, Manipur University of Culture; Dr Keisham Sobita, chairperson, RBCCC and Longjam Joychandra, Vic Chairman, JN Manipur Dance Academy, Imphal as presidium members.
The birth centenary celebration began with the offering of floral tribute to a photograph of Rajkumar Chandrajitsana Singh followed by the releasing of a book titled, "Chahi Chamma gi Khongchat" .
Speaking on the occasion, RBCCC secretary RK Budhimanta said that Rajkumar Chandrajitsana Singh is a legendary doyen in the field of fine arts in Manipur.
He asserted that RKCS imbibed the creative genius of his father and started his career as an apprentice under his father during the Second World War.
"In 1947, RKCS established an art studio named RKCS Chitralaya at Maxwell Bazar (presently Thangal Bazar) which became an institute for fine arts for new generations of artists under his guidance", he added.
RK Budhimanta also mentioned that RKCS was a pioneer who led the art movement in the State, his prowess in fine arts and his dedication in exhibiting the culture & tradition of Manipur to the rest of the world earned him an immortal name.
As a part of the celebration, four visual artists of Manipur namley Lalit Kala Akademi Awardee, Thoidingjam Tombi Singh; Laishram Modhuchandra Singh, retired Principal, Imphal Art College; Aribam Ekanta Sharma and renowned sculptor Laishram Phonindro Singh were felicitated.
Prizes were also distributed to the winners of the 13th RKCS Memorial Painting Competition conducted on October 6 .
