Imphal, June 13 2022: All Manipur Scientific Farmers' Association in collaboration with the Government of Manipur, Fishery Department procured around 4500 fingerlings of 'Wallago Attu' (locally known as Sareng) from Kolkata.

Speaking to mediapersons, All Manipur Scientific Farmer Association President, Premananda Meitei said that imported Sareng fingerlings have started arriving in Manipur.

He went on to state that the aim of procurement of Sareng fingerlings is to ensure that there is self-sufficient production of the particular fish variety in the State.

More fingerlings are expected to arrive on Sunday, he stated.

He further informed that interested persons in rearing Sareng fingerlings can contact All Manipur Scientific Farmers' Association and Fishery Department through mobile numbers-9378157652, 7005150679, 8837428241 or 9856677522 .

Sareng fingerlings imported from Kolkata today will be reared in ponds of Phokbakchao in Imphal West District, he added.
