Jiribam, June 13 2019:
The All Jiribam Road Transport Drivers Union (AJRTDU) has called a 48 hour bandh along the Imphal-Jiribam road from 6 am tomorrow till 6 am of June 16, to protest the failure of those concerned to come clean and bring an understanding regarding the incident which occurred at Gularthol on June 10 .
Speaking to media persons at Jiri News Network conference hall today evening, AJRTDU president M Tombabu stated that the union has been compelled to impose a 48 hour bandh along Imphal-Jiribam road following the failure of those concerned to come clean or tender an apology concerning the scuffle between some staff of the union and some miscreants within the stipulated deadline (today) .
Tombabu narrated that some miscreants arrived at the union's branch at Gularthol on the said day, and demolished the union's sign board apart from using malicious statements along with threatening to shift the office and claiming that the office was set up on land belonging to Tamenglong district.
The union, following the incident, had set today as the deadline for whoever was responsible to come clean on the matter and had also warned that stringent agitation would be launched from the next day (tomorrow) if the individuals/organisations concerned failed to turn up.
Following the failure to receive any apology or clarification, the union has imposed a 48 hour total shutdown along the road from 6 am tomorrow till 6 am of June 16, he added.
Condemning the uncivilised act, he appealed the authority concerned to give fitting punishment to the persons involved in the incident.
He further urged all four wheeler service providers and heavy vehicles to refrain from plying along the said road while cautioning that the union will not be held responsible for any unwanted incidents.
The president further urged all CSOs in Jiribam district to extend maximum support to the total bandh as well.
Vice president Pratap Sanasam and general secretary L Maniton Singh, were also present at the press meet.
