Camp sitting / consultation meeting held

Bishnupur, January 13 2025:
A camp sitting cum stakeholder consultation meeting was held today at the Office of the Deputy Commissioner Bishnupur, Mini Secretariat Complex, Bishnupur, to address the welfare of Internally Displaced Persons(IDPs) residing in Bishnupur District.
The event was jointly organized by the Manipur Human Rights Commission, the Manipur State Commission for Women, and the Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights.
The meeting provided a platform for discussion between the Commission members, District Administration, various line departments, relief camp officials, and the IDPs themselves on various matters regarding the welfare of IDPs.
Lourembam Bikram, Deputy Commissioner, Bishnupur joined by the heads of relevant line departments, including the Zonal Education Officer (ZEO), Chief Medical Officer (CMO), District Social Welfare Officer, PHED officer, and MSPDCL officer outlined the various initiatives and facilities being taken up for the IDPs.
They also discussed the challenges faced in meeting the needs of the IDPs.
Key topics discussed in the meeting included pension schemes, provision of textbooks, stationary items and school uniforms, transportation for students, remedial studies, and healthcare services for chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension.
The IDPs also highlighted the need for improved sanitation, safe drinking water, and psychological support.
Representatives from relief camps in Bishnupur District highlighted the daily struggles of IDPs, with a particular focus on the needs related to education, healthcare, and livelihood.
New Life Foundation and PRDA Bishnupur also shared their experiences and challenges in delivering services to the IDPs.
In his remarks, Keisham Pradip Kumar Singh, chairperson of the Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights, emphasized the importance of safeguarding basic human rights, despite the financial constraints faced.
He also urged stakeholders to focus on best use of Government schools and avail affordable education facilities.
He also stressed the importance of improving livelihood opportunities for IDPs, highlighting that resilience and hope are key to rebuilding their lives.
He appealed to all officials and committee members to take timely action to ensure that the needs of IDPs are met.
Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, chairperson of the Manipur State Commission for Women, stressed that the meeting marked an important step towards building a better future for the IDPs.
She called for coordinated efforts to address the specific needs of women, including timely counselling and access to basic resources.
Kangjam Khagendra Singh, member of the Manipur Human Rights Commission, reaffirmed the Commission's commitment to ensuring the protection of basic human rights for IDPs, particularly in the vital areas of education and health.
He assured that the insights gained from the meeting would be helpful in building a better society for the IDPs.
The meeting was also attended by Mamata Wahengbam, secretary Manipur Human Rights Commission, members of the Commissions, concerned officials of the District Administration, IDPs representatives, committee members of the Relief Camps among others.
