Imphal, October 12 2017:
Opposing the naming of channel using the term "Kuki", Thadou Youth Association (TYA), General Headquarters has requested Impact TV to abstain from providing network in the larger interest of the Thadous and until and unless the issue is not settled .
In a press release, TYA-GHQ asserted that there is an imperative need to document properly the ongoing decision naming the channel as Kuki channel .
It stated that Kuki is an amalgamation of 22 cognate tribes from the non-Naga groups and under any circumstances, a single tribe could not represent the Kuki .
It maintained that the main objective of the Thadou bodies is to preserve the identity and culture of the Thadou tribe which indirectly aims at protecting the integrity of the Kuki Nation .
"TYA appreciates the contributions of Impact TV for the welfare of the people of the State.
As the Kuki is a denomination of 22 tribes, the channel nomenclature becomes a serious issue," it stated .
Can Impact TV provide specific time for all the 22 Kuki tribes? Do all the respective apex civil bodies of the 22 Kuki tribes give their acknowledgement?, TYA-GHQ asked .
The association made it clear that the channel should give equal opportunity to all the 22 Kuki tribes and a single tribe should not represent the Kuki channel .
The channel programme should be given appropriate name accordingly.
This is for the integrity of Kuki Nation as a whole and to prevent future issue, TYA-GHQ in the press release stated.
