Imphal, October 12 2015:
Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) has already instructed the Cabinet Secretariat to take up necessary actions for investigating into the Loktak Lake scam and it is likely that anyone found indulging in irregularities in the clearance of phoomdis (floating biomass) on Loktak Lake will not be spared now, said Former Minister and BJP Manipur Pradesh spokesperson M Hemanta.
Speaking at a press meet on Monday at BJP Manipur Pradesh office, Nityaipat Chuthek, M Hemanta said that Planning Commission of Indian had sanctioned Rs 224 crore for the preservation and clearance of phoomdis in Loktak Lake.
Loktak Lake Management and Conservation Project was launched under the Special Plan Assistance (SPA) to clear the phoomdis but the issue was mired in a controversy as it has been alleged that certain details about the project and huge amount of fund allocated for the purpose was not known.
Manipur Government's Loktak Development Authority (LDA) handed over the works of cleaning the phoomdis to K Pro Infra Works Pvt Ltd in November 2009.But the firm was actually established in June 22, 2009.Questions have been raised as to how the LDA under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister O Ibobi handed over an amount of Rs 224 crore to such a firm which was only 4 to 5 months old then.
BJP Northeast in-charge and Lok Sabha MP Prahlad Singh Patel had also raised the issue in the Parliament during the last session.
The Parliament discussed the issue and the case came to the notice of CVC.
After looking into the matter, CVC has asked the Cabinet Secretariat to take immediate actions against those involved in the scam.
Moreover, NITI Aayog has started taking interest into the Rs 224 crore Loktak Lake scam, said Hemanta.
Manipur Government and the Chief Minister including LDA have failed to clarify or give a statement on the multi-crore scam till date, pointed out Hemanta and assured that BJP Manipur Pradesh will raise the issue until those involved are punished.
Meanwhile, BJP Manipur Pradesh General Secretary (Administration) M Asnikumar also alleged that the Congress led Manipur Government's Minor Irrigation Department has also failed to take up any projects successfully till now.
Khuga Multipurpose Project, Thoubal Project, Sekmai Dam and many others have failed to fulfill their set objectives under Congress rule since 2002, said Asnikumar.
