Senapati, August 12 2019:
Prior to Patriots' Day observation on August 13, the Thangal Students Union (TAJ) together with the Thangal Union (TU) have planted tree saplings in the surrounding areas of the Thangal General Park at Mayangkhang.
Regarding the plantation drive, Meiduipa Thangal, president TAJ reiterated the indifferent attitude of the State Govt towards the only park in the district where no heed is paid for the development in its infrastructure and surrounding.
YK Kaling, president, Thangal Union said that tree saplings are also a living being and a certain period of time is required to attain its maturity adding tha the step taken by the student body is a historical step for the generations to come.
The Thangal tribe leader also appealed all to maintain and preserve the park.
H Kangba, the lone ADC member from the region lauded the organisers for taking up such initiatives.
Drawing the attention of the State Govt, the ADC member said that the statue of Thangal General and a rest house was constructed in 2005 and a community hall was constructed in the 2009 under MFS.
However, the State Govt had never given any provision for upgradation of the ecological park though repeated appeal was made, he added.
On behalf of the Thangal community, the ADC member appealed the State Govt to look into the need for various developmental programmes in the park.
