Imphal, December 11 2017:
Reacting to Chief Minister N Biren's assertion that the Framework Agreement signed between the Government of India and NSCN-IM on August 3, 2015 is unlikely to harm the State's interest, ex-Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has stated that a Chief Minister should not speculate on such sensitive matters but unearth the facts .
The Ex-Deputy Chief Minister was speaking at a protest demonstration staged at Wangbal Bazar under Khangabok Block Congress Committee demanding disclosure of the contents of the Framework Agreement .
He accused the Chief Minister of being inconsistent between what he preaches and practices .
Biren was saying that he would lay down his life for the integrity of Manipur but what the people want is not his sacrifice but protection of Manipur, Gaikhangam asserted .
Clinging to the seat of power even at the cost of disintegration of Manipur would prove to be disastrous in the end.
It is a matter of shame that some people were opposing any protest demonstration within Heingang AC with regard to the Framework Agreement just because it happens to the home Constituency of Chief Minister N Biren, Gaikhangam remarked .
A Chief Minister should speak and act responsibly, he chipped in .
It is rather unfortunate that BJP has been deriding Congress party's campaign against the Framework Agreement as an idle party's work searching for issues out of nowhere.
It appears that BJP Manipur Pradesh leaders including the Chief Minister do not have any idea about what may befall upon them in future .
The Congress party's campaign and slogan are not for the party alone; they are for all communities of Manipur.
The party is only calling upon all the communities and political parties to stand united and firm in order to protect and promote the hills-valley unity, Gaikhangam asserted .
BJP Manipur Pradesh leaders should refrain from making incoherent statements as if they are unaware of the possible repercussions and ramifications of the Framework Agreement in Manipur .
The Chief Minister should not comment on the Framework Agreement by speculation.
He should speak on such sensitive matters only after knowing the details, advised the ex-Deputy Chief Minister .
India is a democratic country and every citizen has the right to express their grievances and aspirations.
But it is rather perplexing that some people were furious when protest demonstrations were staged to safeguard the integrity of Manipur .
Gaikhangam went on to ask as to why BJP was so furious against the Congress party's campaign to safeguard the State's integrity and the sanctity of its territorial boundary .
The Congress party's campaign is not against the Framework Agreement per se but the party is only demanding to make its contents public, Gaikhangam added .
CLP leader and ex-Chief Minister O Ibobi said that the protest demonstrations were staged as there is lurking apprehension among the masses about possible disintegration on account of NSCN-IM's demands .
All such demands which impinge upon the collective interest of Manipur are unacceptable, Ibobi asserted .
Congress MLAs Kh Joykisan, K Meghachandra and K Ranjit too spoke at the protest demonstration.
