Sit-in at Jantar Mantar

New Delhi, December 11 2013:
Around 500 members of the Manipur Loumi Lup have staged a dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi today demanding adequate compensation to farmers and fishermen affected by the Loktak Project and others.
Prior to the sit-in, the farmers, holding red flags led by the State Secretary of MLL, H Ibobi marched from Ram Lila Maidan till Jantar Mantar.
Among others the demands raised by the agitating farmers included withdrawal of dam and projects implemented in the State, monthly payment of Rs 3000 to all farmers as pension, providing drinking water facility in rural areas, to avail PDS items, repeal of AFSPA from Manipur and to avail fertilisers to the farmers in time.

President of All India Kishan Sabha and MP Pramod Pandey; general secretary Atul Kumar Ranjan; Manipur State Secretary of All India Trade Union Congress, L Sotinkumar; vice-president of All Manipur Nupi Marup, Sakhi Devi and Convenor of Coordinating Body of Trade Union Manipur, Ksh Shanta have addressed the protesters during the sit-in. The a team of seven delegates of the farmers would meet Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh tomorrow and submit a memorandum.
