Imphal, August 11 2020:
Kanglei Ima Lup (KIL) has decried the elected representatives for their overindulgence in struggles for power when the State is being overwhelmed by COVID-19 crisis.
The lup (body), in a statement, said that these people who are taking much interest in power struggle indicate nothing but lack of people's concern in their mind.
The incidents of seizure of narcotic substances and intoxicants are aplenty, said the lup while asking whether the Government is sincerely allowing transportations to bring in these items rather than essential commodities.
No matter how many times these seized substances are burnt or disposed of, people will hardly hear any sort of proceedings or strict punishment to the owners and many unscathed smugglers/illicit traffickers will be let to raise high buildings, it said.
On the other hand, the fight against COVID-19 is seemingly going out of hand despite measures and what is more ironical is that non-locals are let to enter the State only to compound the woes, it said.
While demanding to stiffen punishment to those who are indulging in transporting and smuggling illicit items, the lup also asked the Government to immediately stop issuance of ILP pass to non-locals until the situation induced by COVID-19 subsides.
The lup welcomes the news of the peace talk between Government of India and NSCM-IM closing in towards its final settlement, it said while adding that the lup, however, will not remain silent if there is anything that could affect the territorial integrity of the Manipur.
