Thoubal/Bpr, October 10 2019: World Sight Day was observed at Heirok High School in Thoubal district today.

The observance was organised by National Program for Control of Blindness, NPCB Thoubal under District Health Society Thoubal and Lions Club of Kakching Greater.

The day observed under the theme "Vision First" was attended by Lions Club of Kakching Greater president N Utam Singh, NPCB Thoubal District Nodal Officer Dr Ksh Memcha Devi, Heirok High School Headmaster Kh Kesho Singh and District Hospital Thoubal Ophthalmologist Dr N Lingthoingambi as presidium members.

World Sight Day observed

Speaking at the event, N Uttam said that youngsters nowadays are at risk of eyes related problems as they are glued to smartphones most of the time.

People should take extra care of their eyes to avoid vision lost and eye defects, he said.

Eye screening camp was held on October 5 at the school and around 150 students attended the camp.

10 students were diagnosed of refractive errors and were provided corrective lenses (spectacles), he said.

World Sight Day, observed annually on the second Thursday of October, is a global event meant to draw attention on blindness and vision impairment.

It was originally initiated by the Sight First Campaign of Lions Club International Foundation in 2000 .

World Sight Day was also observed at Kiyamba Ningshing Shanglen in Bishnupur.

The event organised by District blindness Control Society, Bishnupur was attended by retd CMO Bishnupur Dr Kh Madhumangol Singh, CMO Bishnupur Dr Th Manihar Singh and Medical Superintendent, District Hospital Bishnupur Dr N Bino Singh as presidium members.

14 students who were diagnosed of eye defects at camps held earlier at schools were presented corrective spectacles at the event.
