Assam Rifles seizes smuggled Timber at Shangshak

Imphal, September 10 2020:
Troops of Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South), seized illegal timber on September 8, at Shangshak Junction.
A statement said that on receipt of a credible input from reliable sources, an MVCP was established at Shangshak junction at around 2130 hrs on 08 Sep 2020 .
At approx 2200 hrs, one TATA truck bearing registration number MN-05-3905 driven by one Athokpam Lukhoi Meitei, aged 52 yrs, a resident of Imphal -East District was intercepted.
On carrying out thorough checking of the documents and vehicle, the truck was found carrying 460 cubic feet of Pinewood and Uchan wood logs without valid permit for the same.
The total value of the smuggled Timber is approx Rs 4.5 Lakhs.
The truck was moving to Imphal from Singcha village.
Shangshak Police station was contacted and the timber along with the vehicle and driver has been handed over to Shangshak Police station for further action at 0845 hrs on 09 September.
