Farmer Field School programme on watermelon held

Imphal, February 10 2016:
A Farmer Field School programme on Watermelon was held at
Monglenphai village, Churachandpur under the aegis of Krishi
Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Churachandpur, ICAR Research
Complex for NEH Region today.
Niranjan Lal, programme co-ordinator, KVK,
Churachandpur, L Somendro Singh, ACTO (Soil Science)
KVK, Churachandpur and Dr R K Roshan, SMS (Hor-
ticulture) KVK, Churachandpur were the presidium
members of the programme.
The function was attended by 40 farmers under
Churachandpur district, a statement informed.
Speaking at the occasion, Dr Niranjen Lal expressed the
need to expand area for watermelon cultivation in
Churachandpur district while L Somendro Singh high-
lighted the growing demand of watermelon in the State.
Dr R K Roshan, SMS (Horticulture) KVK,
Churachandpur highlighted the economic importance of
watermelon and the need for crop diversification to cope
with the changing climate of the region.
The programme was followed by a technical session
wherein lectures were delivered by Dr R K Roshan, SMS,
Horticulture, KVK Churachandpur, on 'Scientific cultiva-
tion of watermelon', L Somendro Singh on 'Nutrient
Management in watermelon', M Bimola Devi, SMS- Plant
Protection on 'IPM in watermelon' and Manngaikim, pro-
gramme assistant on 'Economic importance of watermelon
cultivation' .
The programme concluded with a field visit.
