KKL asks CM's stand

Imphal, January 10 2019: The Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL) has demanded Chief Minister N Biren Singh to state the State Government's stand immediately regarding the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) 2016 which was passed by the Lok Sabha on January 8, immediately.

Speaking to media persons at Manipur Press Club today, KKL general secretary Ngamkheingakpa Luwang said that the association had repeatedly cautioned both the State and Central Governments against passing the said Bill but to no avail.

The CAB was passed recently against the wishes of the people and as such, KKL will vehemently oppose the Bill together with the people of the North East States, he added.

He then stated that if Chief Minister N Biren Singh cannot announce his as well as the State Government's stand regarding the CAB, he should resign on moral grounds.

The BJP should also answer to the people regarding the Bill, he demanded.

He continued that in many States of the North East, even the NPP and NPF have stopped supporting BJP due to the passing of the dangerous Bill and asked why the said parties are all silent when it comes to Manipur.

He then urged the people to decide to boycott all the 60 MLAs and 3 MPs of the State if they do not make their opposition regarding the Bill clear to the people.

On the other hand, International Sanamahism Students' Association has also strongly condemned the passing of the CAB by the Lok Sabha and has vowed to extend every possible support to the people in their protest or agitation against the said Bill.

A press release issued by the general secretary of ISSA today conveyed that it is extremely disappointing to see the State Government acting as a silent spectator on the burning issue and added that this attitude of the State Government is dangerous for the State and the entire North East region.

Questioning the State Government if the Manipur People Protection Bill which was passed in the State Assembly can be effective in the face of the CAB, ISSA assured every possible support to the movement of the people against the Bill.

On the other hand, the Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) and Reformist Students' Front (RSF) have also condemned the passing of the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 .

The associations announced that they will fully support the people in any of their movement or agitation against the said Bill.
