Imphal, January 10 2013:
Taking serious note over summoning of Chief Minister Okram Ibobi by Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde to Delhi, several Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) of the state have warned the Chief Minister against giving his consent to any proposal which might affect the territorial integrity of Manipur while solving the Indo-NSCN (IM) issue.
In a joint statement, UCM, AMUCO, HERICOUN, LIPUL and UNACSU pointed out that after giving up its demand for sovereignty, NSCN-IM has been pressing creation of a Greater Nagalim state for the past 15 years.
On the other hand, the Joint Legislature Forum (JLF) of all the 60 MLAs of Nagaland Assembly is also pressing the Centre to bring a solution to the ongoing Indo-NSCN(IM) peace talk before the scheduled Assembly Election of the state which is due in March this year.
Following these pressures, Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde asked Chief Minister O Ibobi to come to Delhi and discuss a possible solution to the current issue.
In such a situation, people of the state should remain alert to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur, the joint statement said.
At the same time, the joint statement observed, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh should not give his consent on any proposal or matter which might affect the integrity of Manipur.
If the Chief Minister gives his approval to any such condition without the consent of the people of the state, a more fiercer uprising than the June 2001 incident would take place in Manipur which would be hard to subdue, the
joint statement added.
