32nd Raising Day of Poumai Women's Union observed

Founded in the year 1987 on this day to bring peace and justice to the people of the region of the excessive atrocities meted out by the Assam Rifles post Oinam incident where NSCN-IM cadres reportedly ambushed the camp at Oinam Hill village, Senapati, the Poumai Women's Union (Poumai Naotumai Me) today observed its 32nd Raising Day at different places by the different units of the union under the theme, "How women can change in politics".
Similar programme was also organised by Rikhumai Taphou Women Society at its Women's Hall as its 27th Annual Conference on the day.
The programme was graced by LD Seiba, president, Poumai Naga Union, Senapati DHQ as the main speaker in the presence of M Pukho, village headman, village leaders, religious leaders and the women society of the village while Meena Ngaopuni, president, RTWS delivered the welcome speech at the beginning of the programme.
Speaking as the main speaker, LD Seiba spoke about the origin of how Poumai Women's Union (Poumai Naotumai Me) was formed out of unbearable excesses and injustices committed by the Armed forces during the Operation Bluebird in 1987.He recalled that Oinam villagers and its neighbouring 30 villages faced a nightmare of terror and horror when the Indian security carried out one of the biggest operation under the code named as "Operation Bluebird" way back in 1987.The DHQ Poumai president mentioned that 125 residential houses were burnt down, 172 light houses were dismantled, 6 Schools and 10 Churches were destroyed, 27 persons were killed, 3 women were raped, 5 women were sexually molested, 2 women were forced to give birth in public and more than hundreds were tortured as forced labour.
Coming to politics as mentioned on the theme of the day, the speaker said that a political leader should have the agenda how to bring development, change and growth.
