Mapithel Dam : MDAVHCEO sets May 15 deadline for Govt to take steps for rehabilitation of affected villages

Reminding the State Government of its assurance to bring about a conclusive and bilaterally desirable agreement regarding rehabilitation and resettlement of affected villages of Thoubal Multipurpose project, Mapithel Dam Affected Villages Headmen/Chief & Elders Organisation (MDAVHCEO) served an ultimatum to the Chief Minister yesterday.
Appealing the Government to uphold its end of the agreement it had reached during a joint meeting on November 19 last year, MDAVHCEO said the Government has time till May 15 to deliver its assurance.
It will call bandh on May 16 restricting vehicular movement along Imphal to Ukhrul road and Mapithel Dam approach road and impose indefinite restriction on transports of goods/materials for construction of Mapithel Dam, said the organisation in its ultimatum served to the Chief Minister.
The organisation will also stop the Coastal Company from constructing tunnel indefinitely from May 16, cautioned MDAVHCEO.
The Government had agreed to initiate steps to enter a conclusive and bilaterally desirable agreement on November 19, said the organisation condemning the inaction and failure of the Government in the matter.
