44th foundation day celebrated

The 44th Institute Foundation Day of the ICAR Research Complex, Manipur Centre was celebrated today.
The foundation day was celebrated by hoisting the National flag along with ICAR flag in commemoration of establishment of ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region as well as ICAR Manipur Centre, Lamphelpat on January 9, 1975 by the world famous Agricultural Scientist Dr MS Swaminathan, said a statement of Joint Director I Meghachandra Singh today.
The function was graced by JC Ramthanga, IAS, Principal Secretary, Horticulture and Soil Conservation, Govt of Manipur, AC Sharma, retired Senior Scientist (Plant Breeding), ICAR Manipur Centre and Dr I Meghachandra Singh, Joint Director, ICAR Manipur Centre as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.
Continuing its tradition, three retired staffs were honoured with memento and certificate of recognition, said the statement.
Five farmers were also provided with garden tools.
Speaking at the event, JC Ramthanga stated that the ICAR Manipur Centre has evolved into one of the best research institute.
He acknowledged and appreciated contribution and cooperation of ICAR Manipur Centre towards the farmers of the State and specially towards development of horticulture & agriculture, said the statement.
AC Sharma recounted hurdles in the initial stages of the establishment of the centre and advised the working scientists and technical staff to contribute towards development of agriculture in at their level best.
Dr I Meghachandra Singh claimed that the ICAR Manipur Centre is the best centre in the North Eastern Region and asked for cooperation from all stakeholders and State Govt for further development of the institute and agricultural and allied activities in the State.
He appreciated and thanked all the scientists and staffs for making the centre a model in the region.
