The Day for Persons with Disability was observed under the aegis of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA), Imphal West at Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound here today with Deputy Commissioner of Imphal West K Radhakumar as Chief Guest.
Speaking on the occasion, Radhakumar stated that for a society to develop fully, differently abled persons have to be given enough room for flourishing of their innate talents.
Without development of the differently abled persons, a society can never grow.
He pointed out that in developed countries like America, the government provides special facilities for differently abled persons.
Even separate zebra crossings are provided exclusively for them.
Whether or not any one passes along said zebra crossing, all vehicles stop for letting differently abled persons to cross the road as a sign of respect to them.
Taking cue from such developed countries and their concern for differently abled persons, separate ramps are being provided in newly constructed government and private buildings of Manipur today.
The State Government is also reserving job quotas for the differently abled persons.
Describing the definition of a 'perfect person', K Radhakumar stated that a person is said to be perfect only when he is physically, mentally and spiritually fit.
However, it is very hard to find an individual with all the qualities.
They tend to lag behind either physically, mentally or spiritually.
So we need to remind ourselves that the majority of human beings are not perfect.
