JE cases on the rise, campaigns in hill districts from Nov 11

There is an increase in the number of Japanese Encephalitis cases in the State.
This year, so far 342 cases of JE have been reported and 6 persons died.
There were only 88 known cases last year, said Director Family Welfare Dr K Rajo today.
He was speaking at a media sensitisation programme on JE (Japanese Encephalitis) vaccination campaign organised by the Directorate of Family Welfare.
Japanese Encephalitis is a vector borne disease.

Culex mosquitoes, after biting pigs and other animals and birds infected with JE virus, transmit the disease to humans.
Vaccination is the only preventive measure available.
JE has no cure, he said.
JE vaccination campaign will start at Tamenglong, Noney, Kamjong and Ukhrul districts from November 11 .
One dose of the JE vaccine will be administered to each individual under the age group 1-15 .
The campaign will cover 474 villages and 843 schools.
About 570 ASHA workers and 141 ANM and other officials concerned will be engaged in the campaign.
The campaign will cover 79,832 persons under the age group 1-15, he said.
He urged people to approach Community Health Centres, PHCs, RIMS, JNIMs and district hospitals for vaccination.
The programme at the hall of Directorate of Family Welfare was also attended by State Nodal Officer Immunization Dr Nandakeshore Singh and Additional Director Family Welfare Department Md Salamatt Ullah.
