Imphal, August 08 2023:
The Lamlai Kendra Village Volunteer Force (LKVVF) has asked the authorities concerned to remove the camp being built by Kuki militants atop the hill adjoining Sanasabi village, Imphal East district.
Briefing media persons at Nongada today, LKVVF advisor M Debendro said that the camp existed as a bunker some days back but it has been transformed as a base camp with an intention to attack nearby Meitei villages.
He said that the Government, its agencies and other authorities concerned must remove the camp within five days.
If the camp is not removed within the stipulated period, LKVVF would be constrained to destroy it and the Government should bear responsibility for any unwanted incident resulting thereof, Debendro said.
On the other hand, troops of Jat Regiment and BSF, instead of protecting villagers in vulnerable areas of Lamlai AC, have been impeding movement of people by opening check-posts at places where there is no violence, he alleged.
The Central forces have opened a check-post at Leisum (Joilen Lamkhai) between Sabungkhok and Yaingangpokpi but the particular area is quite peaceful and there are no disturbances, he said.
If they are genuinely interested in performing their duties, the Central forces may station themselves at Gwaltabi and other peripheral areas which are being attacked repeatedly by Kuki militants and their associates, he added.
