The most disastrous impacts of poppy plantation to Manipur Nationalism are promotion of communalism through the huge profits earned from poppy plantation, aggravation of conflicts among different communities and creation of chaotic situation in the whole State, the CorCom continued.

Huge profits earned from poppy plantation are invested in elections and thus poppy plantation becomes a source of political power.

In their efforts to earn huge amounts needed to contest elections, politicians harbour close nexus with drug dealers.

Drug dealers too want to be close to political power.

Thus drugs have close connection with elections, reads the CorCom statement.

Asserting that Indian elections and its political set-up can never bring meaningful development to the masses, the CorCom maintained that poppy plantation has been taking a big role in weakening the ongoing political/armed conflict between India and WESEA/Manipur.
