Union Minister of State for Rural Development, Sudarshan Bhagat will inaugurate a month-long National level observance programme of freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu's birth anniversary tomorrow at Mini Stadium, Senapati.
The programme is being organised by Rani Ma Gaidinliu Birth Centenary Year Committee and BJP Schedule Tribe Morcha.
Union Minister Sudarshan Bhagat, National President of BJP ST Morcha and Parliamentary Steering Committee chairman Faggan Singh Kulaste, MP, National VP of Rastriya Sangatak BJP ST/SC Morcha member BS Mathur and BJP ST Morcha member Rameshchand Meena arrived here today.
Addressing media persons today at the BJP Manipur unit office, Faggan Singh Kulaste and Rameshchand Meena hailed the contributions of Rani Gaidinliu, a prominent freedom fighter from the North East.
Various programmes will be organised during the month-long Rani Gaidinliu birth anniversary celebration under the auspices of a celebration committee.
The committee comprises of Scheduled Tribe leaders of the State as well as the National level.
The celebration will also be held Nationwide, they said.
Rani Gaidinliu was born in 1915 at Lungkao village in Tamenglong district.
She joined the struggle for the protection of indigenous people and culture of the State from the British when she was just 14 years under the leadership of Haipou Jadonang.
A programme to honour the freedom fighter has been planned in tribal areas across the country in recognition of her struggle against the British, the BJP leaders said.
Rani Gaidinliu has been honoured with several awards since Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the Prime Minister of India, they said.
A postal stamp was issued in the name of Rani Gaidinliu in 1996 .
BJP Manipur unit president Th Chaoba also said that Rani Gaidinliu has been honoured by the BJP led NDA Govt at the Centre in recognition of her contributions in the freedom movement of India.
