KVK Hengbung conducts awareness / mela at Purul in Senapati

A one day awareness cum mela under Jal Shakti Abhiyan organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Hengbung was conducted at Purul in Senapati District today.
Kh Lalmani Singh (MCS), Addl DC Senapati; Dr HC Bhattacharya, FGI, Hengbung (former Director Extension, AAU Jorhat); Dr Harshajyoti Barooah, Dean, College of Horticulture, FGI Hengbung (former Director, Horticulture, Govt of Assam) and Dr N Jyotsna, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Hengbung graced the occasion as chief guest, guests of honour and functional president respectively.
Around 300 farmers, farm women, youths and school children attended the awareness cum Mela where posters and models on water conservation measures in the hills for agricultural and domestic usages were displayed in Kisan Mela Stall put up in the event while leaflets on water conservation measures, tree saplings, agricultural inputs were also distributed to the farmers.
Stalls were also put up by Naga Spice and Herbs, Zhereih Foods, Peter's Agro Products, Purul Youth and Students' Organization and Baked with Love, etc, displaying their various agro produces while tree spalings were also planted by dignitaries as a part of the programme to encourage farmers, youths and students to help save the environment and mitigate climate vulnerabilities.
Cash prizes and certificates were also distributed to the winners of Spot Painting Competition conducted as part of the ongoing programme on the theme "Save Water and Save Environment" .
Kh Lalmani Singh, Addl DC Senapati, while addressing the gathering, highlighted the need to conserve forest and eco-system for clean water and environment and applauded the role of KVK Hengbung in sensitizing the poor farmers to take up modern agriculture technique to increase agricultural production in the hills more particularly in Senapati District through use of improved seeds and agricultural tools and techniques while stressing on the need to conserve forest for conserving water sources.
Dr N Jyotsna, Senior Scientist and head, KVK Hengbung expressed gratitude to all the participating farmers and school children for their active participation and appealed to carry the good message on Jal Shakti Abhiyan to help conserve water and forest for a better world while other dignitaries also spoke on the need to conserve trees and water for human consumption and agricultural uses.
