Statewide vaccination programme kick-started

Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Minister, O Lukhoi launched the first round of FMD-Control Programme under the the National Animal Disease Control Programme at Veterinary Hospital, Wangoi today.
Speaking at the inaugural function of the two month long mass vaccination programme, O Lukhoi said that the programme (first round) was launched as a part of the Central Government's campaign to eradicate foot and mouth disease (FMD) in livestock by 2030 .
The programme aims at vaccinating 5.40 lakh domesticated animals, he said while appealing those who are rearing the animals partake in the programme and ensure safety of the animals.
The Director of the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services, Dr H Chaoba, in the meantime highlighted that the Nation incur an estimated loss of around Rs 20,000 crore due to FMD annually and with an objective to reduce such a massive loss, the directorate of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services will be vaccinating cattle, buffalo, sheep, goat and pig population in the State.
To ensure the benefit of the programme reaches every nook and corner of the State, the vaccination campaign will be carried out in district headquarters and sub-divisional headquarters as well, the Director continued.
The inaugural function of the mass vaccination programme was also attended by Joint Director (Administration) of Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Services, Dr Ch Nandakishore; directorate's senior officials and doctors.
