Imphal, August 05 2024:
The Kangleipak Kanba Lup (KKL) has appealed to the State and Central Governments to give concession on airfare(aeroplane) to the passengers from Manipur in view of the prevailing situation of the State.
Addressing a press conference today at Manipur Press Club, KKL secretary general Luwangcha Urikhinbam Ngamkheingakpa said that concession on air fare should be given to the people of valley districts if the State and Central Government cannot provide effective security arrangements and ensure safety of people travelling along the National Highways (Imphal-Jiribam and Imphal-Dimapur) .
He pointed out that the lives of the people settling in the valley areas particularly the Meeteis have been drastically affected by the conflict which has been going on for more than a year.
He asserted that the due to the ongoing conflict and constant threat from armed militants, the Meeteis are unable to travel along the highways thereby leaving flight service as the lone option.
He also asserted the air fares which are generally high have added to the sufferings of the people especially students and those seeking medical treatment outside the State.
"In this regard, KKL has submitted memorandums to the Prime Minister, Home Minister, Road Transport Minister, Civil Aviation Minister, Governor of Manipur and Chief Minister of Manipur on August 3", he added.
Further, Ngamkheingakpa asserted that the memorandum demanded the opening of the national highways, adequate security security arrangement to ensure safety of people travelling along the highways and concession on air fare for people from the valley districts until peace is restored in the State.
