Awareness programme held

A one-day awareness programme on "Sexual harassment of women at work places" was held yesterday at United College, Lambung, Chandel district.
The awareness programme under the initiative of Dr BD Thumdal, principal of United College, Lambung was attended by 70 participants comprising teachers, nonteaching staff and students.

Advocate cum Panel Lawyer of MASLSA, as the Resource person of the programme stressed on the main objective of "Sexual harassment of women at work places" Act, 2013.She stated that the sexual harassment results in violation of the fundamental rights of a woman to equality under Article 14 and 15 of the constitution of India and her rights to life and to live with dignity under Article 21 of the Constitution and to practice any profession or to carry on any occupation or trade or business with the inclusion of right to safe environment free from sexual harassment.
She continued that if any sexual harassment arises in the work place, the aggrieved person must file a complaint to the Internal Committee in writing within a period of three months in which she has the right to transfer from its workplaces or to trasfer the respondent in another place or has the right to get leave up to a period of three months in addition to its ordinary leave.
If the complainant has prima facie, the committee has the power to give an enquiry to the police within ten days of the complaint filed, said Sarankumari during her speech.
Later at the end, an interaction was held with the Resource person and the participants as part of the awareness programme.
