Zeliangrong Human Rights Protection Forum president Robert Golmei has condemned that the complete arrogance and negligence of one retired Chief Engineer of Water Resources Department, G Robindro Sharma, who was reappointed by the Government although the Court had issued an order prohibiting any extension of his service period.
In a press meet held at Dewlahland today, Robert continued that numerous protests have been organised against the retired Chief Engineer and the N Biren led Government for extending his service time.
However, amidst the protests and the order of the Court, Robindro Sharma issued a notification/circular as the Engineer in Chief of the Department on November 2, this year.
Condemning Robindro's act of completely ignoring the Court's warning and the public, he remarked that Robindro will even be suitable to enter the Guinness Book of Record as per his act.
He said, after the continuous extension of Robindro's service period even after retirement, Bongjang village chief Letkhomang Khongsai filed a case regarding the matter to the single bench and the division bench of the High Court of Manipur.
Following this, both the single bench and the division bench issued orders forbidding further extension of Robindro's service from June 30, Robert claimed.
However, despite the two rulings of the High Court, a cabinet meeting of the Biren led State Government reappointed him as Engineer in Chief of Water Resources Department.
An RTI was also filed to Chief Secretary (DP) and Secretary Water Resources to disclose the details of the cabinet meeting, he said and added that the people, at the same time, organised various forms of protests demanding the authorities concerned to respect the order of the Court.
On the other hand, G Robindro Sharma had filed an appeal case to the Court to review the order issued by the HC.
However, amidst the unrest of the case, Robindro issued a notice of the department on November 2 which is very unfortunate, he remarked.
S Bongjang village chief Letkhomang Khongsai, while alleging that any retired servicemen in the State can get reappointed if the person has been shielded by the Government, demanded befitting punishment for those who go against the law.
He continued that a Contempt of Court case has been filed against the Chief Engineer.
