Grave of another war hero discovered

Even as the grave of another Manipuri, who remained traceless for about a century after joining Labour Corps during World War-I, has been discovered recently, his family has expressed desire to offer wreaths at the grave of their grandfather.
The news of Second World War Imphal Campaign Foundation's discovery of graves of 87 Manipuris who joined Labour Corps during WW-I in three European countries was recently published in this daily.
Family of Akhil Pukhini, whose grave has also been detected recently, will collect the photograph of the grave from Second World War Imphal Campaign Foundation co-founder Yumnam Rajeshwar.
Akhil's grandson Sunny Lohou told The Sangai Express that his grandfather joined Labour Corps as he knew English.
Sunny said that Akhil never returned home even after the end of World War-I .
Akhil had three sons and one daughter when he left home to join the war, Sunny said.
Saying that his family was so happy on getting the news of discovery of his grandfather's grave after remaining traceless for about 100 years, Sunny said that they are so eager to offer wreath at the grave of his grandfather.
He said that they had even contributed money in the past to trace their missing grandfather.
Yumnam Rajeshwar said that Akhil Pukhini was working in 39th Labour Corps Unit and his service number was 190 .
He died on May 4, 1918 and he was laid to rest at Barly French Military Cemetery.
Rajeshwar further said that photograph of his grave and other details would be handed over to his family.
Yumnam Rajeshwar said that around 2000 people joined Labour Corps during World War-I .
