Imphal, August 04 2015:
Many organisations of the State have come forward to condemn police excesses against student protesters and the killing of Sapam Robinhood.
Manipuri Association North East India (MANEI) in its central executive committee meeting held today at Guwahati strongly condemned the killing of Robinhood and police excesses against protesters demanding the implementation of ILPS.
A two-minute silence was also observed as a mark of respect to Sapam Robinhood, a statement said.
Pointing out that excessive use of force by the police to contain protesters will only invite intensified protests, MANEI urged the State Govt to look into the matter and ensure that such excesses are not repeated.
Chanura Marup, Manipur People's Party has vehemently decried police action against student protesters yesterday wherein policemen allegedly manhandled even girl students.
Strongly decrying alleged police excesses against student protesters yesterday, Pangal Students' Organisation (PSO) Manipur has demanded fitting action against the personnel involved.
In a statement, PSO said that the action of the police personnel against girl students who were in uniform and launching democratic protest amounts to crime against children.
It also urged all concerned to enforce the 48-hour general strike imposed by the Students' Wing of JCILPS.
PSO further said that it will impose a curfew on all Govt offices until the personnel involved in the killing of Robinhood are punished and the demand for implementation of ILPS is achieved.
The PSO also urged all concerned to look into the grim flood situation at RIMS, Shija hospital, NIT, CAU areas and do the needful at the earliest.
