Terming it unfortunate for a multi-ethnic State like Manipur, Hill Areas Committee (HAC) Chairman Dinganglung Gangmei has lamented the Supreme Court's landmark judgement to create a sub-category of creamy layer within the Scheduled Tribe category.
Speaking during zero hour in the State Assembly today, Dinganglung Gangmei said that the apex Court's judgement is rather unfortunate for a multi-ethnic State like Manipur as there are many sub-communities both within the Naga and Kuki tribes.
He appealed to all the people to ponder over the Supreme Court's ruling and work collectively to bring peace in Manipur.
Citing the Supreme Court's landmark judgement on ST/SC creamy layer and the fresh peace initiative at Jiribam, Dinganglung Gangmei said people may express their grievances and put forward their demands in a democratic manner and within the bounds of law but one should not take recourse to violence.
He appealed to all the CSOs to give up the notion that violence can deliver any demand.
He also appealed to all concerned to stop collection of illegal taxes from transporters and drivers on National Highways.
Reacting to the speech given by Lok Sabha Member Alfred Kanngam Arthur in the Parliament a few days back, Dinganglung Gangmei remarked that it was not right for the MP to blame Chief Minister N Biren personally.
MLA Th Lokeshwar asserted that the House ought to condemn the brutal police crackdown on a rally by IDPs at Akampat as well as the merciless assault on a journalist on Thursday.
